From Wrapping Paper to Doll Couture: The Unexpected Lives of Rossi 1931 Florentine Designs

At Rossi 1931, our decorative papers have always been more than paper. They are patterns, identities, stories told in colour and line, and as it turns out, the world has found no shortage of extraordinary ways to bring them to life.

Browsing the web and social media, we are constantly discovering new and unexpected uses of our Florentine designs, and few have stopped us in our tracks quite like the world of doll fashion. Talented collectors and miniature fashion designers have been using our decorative papers to create breathtaking clothing for high-end collector dolls: full-length gowns with sweeping skirts, tailored dresses with bold all-over prints, dramatic statement pieces that would not look out of place on a real fashion runway. The vibrant, swirling acanthus leaves, the richly coloured floral arabesques, the intricate Florentine motifs — at miniature scale, these patterns take on an entirely new dimension of drama and elegance. The paper, light and workable enough to be cut and shaped into tiny garments, holds its colour and its print with extraordinary fidelity, making it a surprisingly perfect material for this most delicate of crafts.

But doll fashion is only one chapter of a much longer story. Rossi 1931 Florentine designs have found their way into bookbinding, interior decoration, fabric printing, packaging, stationery, paper crafts, scrapbooking, decoupage, frame making, envelope lining and so much more. The bold, characterful patterns that designer Patrizia Margheri has created over the years have a life and energy that translates across materials, scales and creative disciplines in ways that continue to surprise and inspire us.

All Rossi 1931 designs are fully protected: catalogued, preserved in the company archives and registered with the SIAE (Italian Society of Authors and Publishers) in Rome. However, we warmly welcome creative and commercial collaborations. Our designs are available for licensing across a wide range of applications and industries, from fashion and textiles to packaging, interior design and beyond. If you have a project in mind and believe that the beauty of Florentine design could be part of it, we would love to hear from you.

With over 350 references in our collection, there is a design for every vision. The only limit is imagination.
